According to Duncan Haws (Merchant Fleets 6, Blue Funnel Line) Nestor was built to carry 350 1st class, although some sources say 275.
In 1926 the number was reduced to 250 1st class.
In 1935 this was reduced again to 175 1st class.
Finally in 1940 it was increased again to 250 all one class.

Nestor - 1939

Hello. My mother and her parents travelled to Fremantle and on to Melbourne, arrived Fremantle, 21.09.1939. Can anyone confirm that this is the same as the "Nestor" of your thread? Anyway of finding more information?
Thanks, David

In 1959 the Chief Sparks of SS Jason was the elderly Tegwyn Davies of Pwllheli who, for many years, had sailed in Nestor until she was sold in 1950.

He boasted more than once that Nestor had "the tallest funnel ever placed aboard a British merchant ship". Was he right?
