Alan Derwent

Hi guys, just back from holiday and the Villas owner mentioned her late uncle had been an engineer with BP but couldn't fine any more information, I said I would ask on here. Any one recall Alan Derwent he would have been in his eighties now. Thanks Alan Bristow. wife now reckons name was Darwent, isn't age a wonderful thing!

This is the first sighting, I'll have a look further on later.

Ships leaving drydock FEb/March 1961.

Clyde Gunner 3E A Darwent, I know one of her JE's so will see if I can find out more.
Flag , Dec/Feb 1964/65 3 E A Darwent.

Sure I sailed with Alan Darwent in the 1970's. He a Motor second engineer, me doing motor time probably. He being a look-likey Sgt. Bilko. If he had not got a 1st class ticket by the late 1970's (which I don't think he had), he would have been vulnerable for redundancy. As were 3rd engineers without seconds tickets at that time. A bit of a character?

Sailed with Alan on British Venture when he was 2/E in 73 - known affectionately as Bilko.

I joined the Osprey with Alan Derwent in Dubai in August 1972. After a terrific trip, visiting Gan, Kwinana, Westernport, NZ, as well as all the usual BMFO stuff, I left her in Aden in Feb 73.
