Crew of Benvenue 1959

The attached photos were sent to me by Ron Fraser who was Chief Electrician on the Benvenue when I made my first voyage to the Far East in December 1959.

We can’t recall the occasion but on Christmas Day that year we were somewhere in the Indian Ocean between Aden and Penang. If it was not a Christmas Day “muster” it may have been somewhere near Bangkok as were taking a Diplomat’s Wife, and her Niece, back to that Port.

I have numbered the various personnel in the photos and maybe some people on the Forum recognise some of them.

No 3 - 2nd Eng George Duncan
No 4 - Chief Eng. Alan Thomson

No 6 - 3rd Eng John Bannon
No 7 - 7th Eng George Clark
No 8 - 2nd Mate Alistair Kidd
No 9 - 2nd Elect. John Coulthard

Photo 2:

No 8 - Chief Officer ? Cuthbertson
No 9 - 4th Eng Willie Irving

Good pictures. Very reminiscent of a bygone era ...

Recognise several of them but they looked a lot older by the time I sailed with them.
