French Police Officer Arnaud Beltram

He replaced a female hostage, in the French supermarket killings, knowing he was unlikely to survive.
Courage of the highest degree.

The word Hero is frequently over used and misplaced.

Here it is appropriate.

Valour above and beyond the call of duty. Je me souviens.

Pity we cannot let it stand alone but, feel it necessary to drag some other country's shortcomings into the story.

Easy to pick holes in someone else's behaviour if you weren't there.

It has been all said on this post but I salute a truely brave man who surely knew he was going to his death to save another. Lt-Col Arnaud Beltrame, hero is to small a word for your sacrifice.

From La Marseillaise

Tremble, tyrants and traitors
The shame of all good men
Tremble! Your parricidal schemes
Will receive their just reward
Against you we are all soldiers
If they fall, our young heros
France will bear new ones
Ready to join the fight against you

Une force humaine

He will have known what he was letting himself in for, so an incredibly brave act by an incredibly brave man.
Please God don't let Trump try and tell us it's what he would have done.

I'm not religious but John 15:13..."Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends."

His 'friends' may not have known him; but they will remember him throughout the extra years his sacrifice bought them...

Marched with some really incredible teenagers yesterday who articulated their cause better than most of the Politburo ruling this place. They have passion conviction and time on their side. The 11 year old in DC was truly remarkable. Like this poor gendarme they have a grip on what it takes to do what they feel is right when the time comes. I hope their flame will become an inferno.
