Ahoy Hasse,
This is amazing, just when I finished some scannings, and entered SN,I saw your request, this must be telepathy, coz I just scanned 2 Johnson's vessels right now. Will have to dig into my files to find some more, surely have some.
But here the fresh scannings of the ANTONIA JOHNSON & MARGARET JOHNSON.Yep I knew their vessels, but never went on them,I was a Rederi SVEA A/B man.

Greetings Hasse
Moving just off your main interest back in the 1970's the German firm of Wiking made a lovely plastic 1:1250 model of the Rio de Janerio. You maybe able to locate one from the specialised ship model dealers who advertise on the web.

Does someone know what happened to Johnson Line? Do they have any ship left or have they been absorbed by some other company? I understand that most traditional Swedish Shipping companies are gone but new have popped up. Some of them seems to have changed name. Is Johnson Line amongst them.

Thank´s
Hawkey01,ruud,peter4447 and ulf fore your replies.
I still wounder where all Johnson Line sailors went, there are lots of old and young seamen in this forum sending photos and scare there memories from the sea from the past to present days.
Peter thank´s for your tip about Rio De Janeiro model, found one on Internet rather expensive also found one in a antique store here in Sweden, a model in Scale 1/100 of M.S. Brasilia. Have E-mailed for prise, believe it is hugh.
Ulf, i don´t really know about Johnson Line right now, but in the 80´sit there where hard times for Johnson Lines. In 1986 they started in the ferry business instead, together with the Finnish company Effoa. In 1988-89 they take over the Sally rederies and the EffJohn international started. In EffJohn there are Silja line,Finnjet,Sally line,Vasabåtarna,Jacop Line,Sally Line UK, Commondore Cruise Line, Bermuda Star Line and Europe Cruise Line. Effjohn is in the 1990 one of the world´s biggest ship constellations in the passenger traffic. ( all Translated from Johnson Line´s Publication" Rederiet" 1990. ISBN91-970484-1-0.) What´s happened after that i don´t know.
Hasse.

Ahoy Hasse,
If you could provide a list of the wanted vessels, it sure will be of a great help, let's say first the vessels you've sailed on,and later on the others?

Hello again ruud!
The ships a sailed on was the M.S. Rio De Janeiro and M.S. Portland in in the early 70´s. They are the ship´s that interested my most, but all Johnson line ship photos and stories is great. By the way thank´s to you ruud and all others in this forum that take the time to post pictures of ships in the gallery. Believe that it make´s lots of memories to all in the forum that maybe sailed or have seen this ship, i do myself have photos to scare, but don´t really know how to do.
Hasse.

Thank´s ruud,
that you are so kind and take your time to post your photos and with this great information to, about the ships. I started this Johnson Line tread not only because i am myself interested in the subject, i am as you probably already knows, now building ship models, and have all my life have had ships and the sea as my main hobby. I believe that there must be many Johnson Line sailors looking at this forum, and i think it´s time for them to post some photos and memories for us all to scare. I did some posting in the Ben Line forum a while ago about my Benledi model i´m currently building. and did get lots of replies from forum members. Why are the Swedish people so slow?????????
Thank´s again ruud,
Hasse.

Johnson line of Sweden

Hi there.

If you go to Goolge and type in Johnson Line in the search bar you find a few headings. One is by a Berry Gunnersson who sailed with the line. His web page starts with the founder Axel Johnson (1844) and goes through to 1981 when the latest Axel Johnson became chairman of Redi AB Nordstjernan.

Berry also lists his email address as [email protected] so give him a call as he may be able assist.

haase,

I think ruud's photograph of the Margaret Johnson is of the second ship by that name. The first Margaret Johnson was built around 1927 and it was a combined passenger and freight carrier (it had a capacity of 50 passengers.) I travelled on it in the Spring (I think it was May) of 1939 when I was a child, boarding in Antwerp and disembarking in Puerto Colombia (near Barranquilla, Colombia.) My parents and I were among a rather large lot of Spanish Republican refugees on board who had left Spain at the end of the Civil War. We continued the trip going up the Magadalena river in a stern-wheeler (the "Pichincha") to Puerto Salgar (eight days) and then by rail to Bogotá.

By the way, if anybody can tell me how to find out the exact dates of the trip from Antwerp to Puerto Colombia I should be most grateful.
