Clive
I have records of 2 vessels with that name
1. Built in 1902, Norwegian owned chartered to United Fruit Corporation and scrapped in 1932.

2. Passenger Steam Ship built in 1933 for Southern Railways by W Denny and Bros. Taken over by Admiralty, bombed and sunk by German Aircraft on 24th May 1940 at Dieppe, France

QUOTE]I have a mate who served on Chapman's mv "Brighton" just after the end of WWII. He was on her when she ran aground on a sandbank in the Elbe estuary during a severe gale whilst trying to drop the pilot. They were eventually pulled off by tugs and returned to Bremerhaven for underwater inspection by divers. This would have been the winter of 1945.

Thanks for that but after that ship was lost Chapmans must have bought a replacement because my friend was on her in 1945. Thanks anyway for taking the trouble to look her up and give me the details.
