Vandyck and Voltaire ... the lost years 1929 to 1932

The Voltaire was laid up idle in the River Blackwater from 1929 to 1932 before conversion to cruising. However there are some contradictions at least in internet sources about the Vandyck. Was she also laid up idle during this period ? and if so where was she ?

LAMPORT & HOLTS' T.S.S. "VANDYCK"3. Says she was laid up in the River Blackwater 1929/1932.

Thank you very much for investigating this and your reply which may be correct but there is now some doubt about this as photos taken of the Blackwater at the time show only the Voltaire and the accounts for anchorage dues do not include the Vandyck. There are pictures on the web-site http://www.merseamuseum.org.uk/mmshipping.php of the Voltaire laid up in the Blackwater and I have some of her myself with other ships there but but no records as such of the Vandyck. I have also seen the accounting records at the Essex Records Office of dues paid for anchorage on the Blackwater from January 1931 onwards which show dues paid by Lamport & Holt for the Voltaire, Bernini, Bronte and Boswell at that time but not for the Vandyck.
I wonder if the source you mention has any references as to their source ?. The accounting records and the photos do not show the Vandyck as having been laid up on the Blackwater with the Voltaire, but if she was not there where was she for 3 years ? I will look at the Lloyds Voyage Record Cards held at the Guildhall Library when next in London unless anyone can help further ?.

The Lloyds Voyage Record Cards show that the Vandyck arrived at Southampton on 06/09/30 from a transatlanitic voyage and reberthed at Southampton on 26/05/33 it being reported that she struck the berth when docking. There are no other reported movements and I have found a photo of her on a swivel anchor in thr Solent off Netley Hospital suggesting that she was laid up there for that period
