Capatain Harry Barber

I've been informed by Harry's wife, Ena, that he passed away this morning.
A true gentleman, Duncan and I sailed with him on the Meadowbank when she was on fire and never saw him loose his cool.
I've kept in touch over the years but his health has been declining.

Sorry to hear that, as I said on the other thread, a gentleman, fine Ship Master and Ship Handler (2 starts turning off the Apia berth, no tugs)

Fair winds Captain

Sailed with him way back in 1953 when he was 2/0 of the Ernebank, and I was a junior apprentice. He was a great shipmate on a memorable voyage. R.I.P.

tribute

Have just posted a tribute on http://banklineonline.com and included the photo shown here taken in 1953 on top of ' The Mother' volcano in Rabaul. The figures are left to right: Doug Christie ( senior App) Harold Barber (3/0) 3rd Engineer and myself with the tall pole.

Gone but not forgotten

Fair winds and safe landings for Capt. Harry Barber one of the best captains I sailed with.
