Smile Welcome

A warm welcome Arthur. There are a lot of BP guys on the site. If you do not get a response from your Hello post, try placing another in the BP Tankers forum. There are also some British Patriot photos in the gallery. Just type British Patriot in the find box.

Fred

Arthur,
Welcome to the site.
Afraid I missed you by a couple of years. I was a navigating apprentice on her from May 1961 to May 1962 - one of the happiest ships I served on. Have attached a photo of her. There are a couple others of her in the gallery.
Kind regards,
John F.

British Patriot

Thanks guys for your replies, I really enjoyed my 6months on the British Patriot, we spent quite a lot of time in Piraeus (Greece) and Izmir (Turkey), that was in 1958.

Hi John F. Like I said I was on the British Patriot from Jan. to Aug. 58 and it was a fantastic time even though I was only a catering boy. The older lads seem to take care of the younger ones in them days. So long ago now.

Ahoy Arthur,
Sorry, I sailed on tankers, but never on this one,I think you mixed up with John , and secondly at that time I was 15, and still school going.

Hello you British Patriot Guys I sailed on the Patriot in 1960 skippers name was Fraser great guy, I can pass on a little info about her on the way from the Tyne to Austin Texas around the azores we were buzzed by a Cessna Light aircraft a couple of times then she flew over the patriot very low aft to forward and then ditched into the sea, the 1st mate launched the life boat and carried out a successful rescue, the pilot informed us he was delivering the aircraft to Italy and had run out of gas. we continued the voyage to Austin and said good bye to the pilot, trust it was informative info and assume it was just one of many instants in her life. cheers Seemore
