Minesweeper

Hi. My name's Bryn and I'm trying to find out more about my Dad's service in ww2.
I'd particularly like some information on HMS Mariner, an Algerine minesweeper, in 1945/6.

HMS Mariner was quite often moored at Lowestoft in the late 40ties early 50ties she was involved with Fishery Protection.

Hi Bryn, I am ex-RN of the 70's but my father-in-law was on HMS Mariner though not sure which years National Service. He was born 1931 so we expect he was onboard around late 40's early 50's. I am attempting to find out as much as possible about his National Service time.
He was Petty Officer Artificer Gunnery, Keith Wiles and does remember the commanding officer was Lt Jenks.
Unfortunately Keith is suffering very badly with dementia but I do have a couple of pics with other PO's taken during training I expect.

Hello,
The logbooks of HMS MARINER are lodged in the National Archive.
For 1948-54
https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ro=any&_st=adv

Search with Date Ascending.

You cannot view online. You need to visit to view. Logbooks of HM Ships are primarily Navigation Records but you may find reference to individual sailors. At least you can find out where he went to.
The only other reference to HMS MARINER is this
https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/C4844738

Service records are still with the MOD. Your Father in Law can apply for free, also if you have power of attorney you can apply on his behalf.

regards
Roger

Many thanks Roger. Father-in-law cannot do anything due to bad dementia but his power of attorney, grandson, will be pleased to do a search.
Kind regards to you Roger from father-in-law Keith Wiles who has now lost ability to walk and so much weight. His daughter Sharon is my wife.
Also from myself, Chris Neave D129----.
