A likely story. It obviously did you no lasting harm.

I'm still around, though maybe a little rounder than I was when sailing in Denholms. I was on Chelsea Bridge (on loan from Silver Line) then Chemical Venturer, Glenpark, and Connon Forest, which was my last ship before coming ashore in 1977

Hi I sailed with Jed Reed on the Burmah Peridot in1976 - he was a great party turn after a few with his old east end ballads! Was also on the Heron June - October when she was renamed Helm after Cast went bust.

Cast did not go "bust " but sold the lossmaking bulk ships and continued with the container fleet.

Cast Heron should have been June - October 1983. We were kept in the dark on board at this time off Gibraltar - went in for bunkers for a few hours so John is correct but that was the rumour at the time.

[QUOTE= BRYCE BROWN[/QUOTE]

Name rings a bell................
Was he 3rd Mate on the Gallic Bridge say 1969-ish?
Bryce spent some time as a truck driver too, if its the same guy.

If it is, Bryce (3/O), Jimmy Fielding (4/E ex Gourock), Graham McQueen (Deck App, ex Oban) and me (Deck App, AKA Ted, Percy, Percy Squacker, ex Edinburgh) paid off in Port Talbot and Bryce / Jimmy rented a Triumph 2.5 to travel home to Scotland in.
We blew two tires, chunks of rubber flying off the tyres doing 120mph on Motorway going north.... Had to get AA out on motorway to replace a tyre.

Hmmm....long time ago.....................

hi,
just been reading through some of the posts, I was with Denholms for roughly 1972 to 1982. started as an eng cadet at GCNS.

I recognise a lot of the names, sailed with Stewart Mckay in OIL , Oil Chieftain and Oil Mariner for a few years.

We also took over the Lock Carron which was Denholms step into the supply boat buisiness if I remember correctly, I carried out an inspection on her and from memory most of the Crew were ex denholms deep sea and I new quite a few of them.

Gents,

Greeting from Alan Reid in Hong Kong.

Just found the site yesterday and found a lot of memories.

Did not find the old Denholm expression of, "One egg, per man, per day, perhaps", though.

All the best

Alan
