Blue Star Line Empire Star

Does anyone know anything about the final days of the Empire Star, I did a "run job " in her in 1970 and was due to sail to Oz & NZ as 2nd steward but
ill health stopped me .I remember having to anchor off Southend because of fog as she had poor radar & the pilots wouldn't take her up to KG5.
She had a beautiful marquetry map of the world in the foyer depicting the date & positions of all Blue Star Line vessels lost in WW2.
thanks all.

Hi Paul,

SS Empire Star built as Mercia 1946

1946 EMPIRE STAR, F.Leyland & Co.{Blue Star Line)
1950 Lamport & Holt Line.(Blue Star Line)
1971 Scrapped Taiwan.

There is plenty of info regarding the Empire Star in WW2 just Google Empire Star.

Smile Empire Star.

I was AB in her in the 60's. Twin screw, bad steerer. Very heavy on deck.

Captain was a Bank boat second mate I had sailed with years before.

I got a photo of her if you'd like it. Won't publish it here because it might cause copyright problems, but let me know and I'll email it to you privately OK?......Peter

Welcome to the site Paul, not a good idea to publicise your email address as you may get some unwelcome spam mail. Enjoy the site.

Ahoy Paul,

As mentioned above, try to change your "nick-name", in case you couldn't, ask admins to do so,cos otherwise soon your mailbox will be loaded with unwanted emails, such as winning in the lottery, being chosen to get a lot of money from African countries, pharmacy tablets, and other rubbish like that.
Here a piccie that was send to me by a friend, as he noticed that the original photo was made by J.Clarkson, so the credits going to him.

I remember seeing her in Curacao, obviously in for bunkers, sometime in 1969.

Thumbs up Empire star final voyage

Hi all just browsing and found this site, I am replying to a post from Paul Rennison. My name is Neil Taylor I was on the empire star on her final voyage we had previously done an 8 month trip on her and the old man asked if I wanted to come back next trip as the ship was being scrapped and it was going to Taiwan and that it was going to be a run job with just a skeleton crew, I jumped at the chance although been away for awhile we only got four days leave but that suited me.
Talk about a slow boat to China thanks to the engineers it took us far longer than anticipated mind you it was an old ship with plenty of problems so every day counted. We arrived in Taiwan and stayed the night aboard. Next day we were taken to an hotel whilst air travel was been arranged, it took us nearly 2 weeks to get home because we flew all over from Taiwan to Taipei stayed a night from Taipei to Hong Kong stayed 4 days Hong Kong to Karachi 2 more nights and a couple of other stay overs and although it was a run job I remember paying off with nowt. Happy times, great bunch, good sea ship. Hope this answered your question.
