SS&A WW II Memorial UK National Memorial Arboretum.

The National Memorial Arboretum is at Alrewas, Staffs. It is a site of 150 acres of woodlands and gardens with over 350 Memorials dedicated to the memory of Armed Forces and Civilian Services personnel who lost their lives in various conflicts, particularly WW II.

There are a number of MN Company Memorials, including one provided by the SSS (Shaw Savill Society) in memory of the 473 seafarers who lost their lives on Company ships during WW II.

Earlier this year the SSS launched an appeal to its Membership for assistance with funds to restore the SS&A Memorial which was showing severe signs of exposure to the elements.

Many generous donations were received and I am very heartened to report that Mike Lacey, the current Hon. Sec. of the SSS, has advised that last Friday 6th December 2019 a replacement memorial plaque was installed on the plinth at the National Memorial Arboretum in memory of those who lost their lives on Company ships during WW II.

The original plinth has been renovated. However, the stains from salt leaching out of the brickwork will take some time to remove.
