Yes I was just the same when I joined the Danny.
Working on the two engines was a revelation to me. I was in college in the late 50s and at that time they were still teaching reciprocating steam engines, probably same time as you. I never found out what dates they stopped teaching it and caught up with reality but to be fair there were a few of them still working.
I love the standard of the engineering.
The engines still run pretty much as they would have always even though they have worked all but about 20 years of their 117 years of life. They were built so well. The more I work on them the more I realise how how cleverly designed and constructed they were.
