Van Ommeren Shipping

As a new member I would like to introduce myself in this forum.
I have been in the shipping business with Van Ommeren Shipping BV in Rotterdam from 1958 untill 2000. Sailed as mate and captain on freighters, tankers, bulkcarriers and container carriers untill 1990, when I became Fleetmanager in the HO in Rotterdam.
Retired in 2000 but still very much interested in the shipping world.

Hi Ron,
Welcome on this site and we are looking forward to your postings.
I used to work 100 metrers from your desk, just around the corner on Westerkade (remember the Danish Consulate..?).
Ik hoop dat je het naar je zin krijgt bij SN.
Jan

p.s. do you remember Hortensius??

Hi Ron

A former shipmaster from Kiwiland here. I remember the Van Omerren ships well including the "........beacon" ships under the British flag. (Meadomsley Shipping Co. Ltd.) also the "Langley...." ships A long shot but I have a friend here in NZ who was with the firm - Bert VanKrieken. (excuse my spelling) Bert sure was a character and a terror for the girls. Tot ziens!

All the best...Clive Spencer

Clive,

Thank you for taking the time to reply to Ron's posting.
Sadly, I doubt whether you will get an acknowledgement since he last visited SN in February 2006 .......... still, you never know, stranger things have happened!

Smile Van Ommeren Shipping

Just by chance came across the above remarks.
I had a friend of mine sailing on the Crowborough Beacon as supercargo whilst it was on charter to Palm Line in early 60`s. His name was Mike Boden. We where in Sapele together as I was on another charter to Palm Line the MV Norden.

Retired now and have lost contact with him, but hope he is still around.

Regards

I had forgotten all about this company.A friend of mine was a steward on the Holsworthy Beacon 61/62.He was always talking about it.Gerald Paterson was his name.I went to sea myself as a deck apprentice in 1965.He left the sea in 1963,to work for my uncle, but left the area in 1966.He showed me a photograph of the vessel. It looked good.I think he mentioned another Van Ommeron vessel,Ivinghoe beacon(may have spelt it wrong). Not sure if he was on that vessel also.
