Sad to hear that.
Peter was OM on the Pacific Logger (CP Ships) in the early 70s when I was lecky. A great guy always made a fuss of my wife when she did the odd trip with us. Never met Loraine but I am sure she was just as nice as Peter. |

Sad news.
I sailed with Pete on "Maipura" when Walter Couling, (spelling?), was on his final trip before retiring. "Walter" had his wife, (Dorothy, a lovely lady.), with him.
We were homeward bound and in "The Bay", (Biscay), when, unfortunately, Walter died and, after consulting with Dorothy, a sea-burial was decided on, truly fitting. This was duly carried-out with Pete officiating. Pete assumed Command so I have his name in my Discharge Book as Master. A lovely man who has crossed the bar. Thanks Les and Phil. My wife and I are going to the funeral on Friday at 1130 in Harrogate. Loraine told me he had severe kidney problem which had led to leukemia, He returned home following Doctors' decision that there was nothing further they could do, He died shortly afterwards at home. Roger

I did not sail with Pete but it is always sad to hear of another good man crossing the bar.

Captain Peter Swift
My wide and I attended Peter's funeral at Christ Church followed by an excellent spread of food and wine afterwards at the Cedar Court Hotel. The funeral service sheet had three photos of Peter, one as a cadet at HMS Conway, then as a Captain, and then one of him at his 80th birthday. I have scanned the notice but it is too large to attach. The church was packed many of them masons as Peter had been very active in various lodges and at high level. His daughter and grand children readout the famous Masefield poem "I must go down to the sea again" Very moving, as was the excellent eulogy by one of his friends. God Bless, Roger

The church being packed illustrates exactly what a well-liked and popular man Pete was. Thanks again. Phil |

Phil, Yes it showed what high regard he was held in. I passed on your regards to Loraine. I will work on the photos on the service sheet and will post them on the Brock site. Best Salaams, Roger
