Ronnie Keir ex GTV’s

Ronnie Keir my shipmate from the Eurofreighter and the Euroliner is on tv. There is a program tonight and next Tuesday, Channel 5 @ 8pm. The program is about the QE2. I don’t know which night Ronnie is on, it may be both nights.

Hello John,

During his apprenticeship Ronnie worked on the building of the QE2. He then served as Chief Engineer on her. By the time Ronnie retired he had been Chief Engineer on the QE2, Queen Mary 2 and the Queen Victoria.

Jim.

He has a long relationship with the ship.

Thanks Dougie , all the times I sailed with Ronnie on the Eurofreighter never knew he went on to better things .

It was only 3 weeks ago after trawling the ‘threads’ that I saw Ronnie name, (my thread #274 Asiafreighter).
In 1976 Falmouth, as ECO, I was working alongside Ronnie most days and ‘up the road’ most nights. At that time it would never have occurred to me that Ronnie would have gone onto the positions he held.
Looking on ‘Google’, Ronnie really does look the part.
Sad when anybody leaves us.

To Dougie and John C, I must have sailed with you at sometime between 75 and 77, I remember the names, I think, but not necessarily the faces.

Here’s to Ronnie, whose face I remember very well.

Hi Guys,
For those of you who do not know Ronnie passed away in 2018 see the link below.
I sailed with Ronnie many times on the Eurofeighter, good guy. I doubt very much if you get shore side engineers going to sea as Juniors these day , it is a thing of the past but I am glad it was also one of them.
John
