Billy,
I sailed with you on one ship, cant remember which one, but it was round the land, and we all went on a bus trip to Ayr with a crowd of girls from Betty's Bar.
Regards,
Pat

Duquesa,

What is it with you? The mention of 'Blue Funnel' seems to be have an adverse effect on you. Lighten Up! It was another British Shipping Company albeit a very good one from all accounts.

Regards

Dave

Dave,
We were wondering if there was something we have missed? Frankly the comment from Duquesa seemed to us to be very pleasant, harmless in the extreme and quite supportive, so the response from you is, at first glance, a tad confusing. Can you enlighten us on what is wrong please?

Mark

From Michigan, a warm welcome to our site, Billy.
It's going to take some time for you to get through all that we have on the Blue Flue, so make yourself at home and enjoy the postings and the pictures.

Willingly Tonga,
Shortly after joining the site I came across post # 358 on the 'BF Reborn' thread which seemed quite irrational to me and I told the writer so suggesting he should ignore the thread. Earlier posts in that thread were similarly irrational. Incidentially, I did not see moderator intervention!
On reading the writers comments on this thread it appeared to be far from pleasant but a little sarcastic and I merely suggested AGAIN to lighten up.
We are all here for pleasant dialogue and I see no sense in going somewhere (thread) that clearly irritates the reader. I hope that makes my comment clear. Nothing personal, anti Houlders or otherwise.

Dave

hello jason....... in greece.

the bluies is a way of calling a British shipping company called The Blue Funnel
Line.
It was also called Alfred Holt, who began the company........... many years ago

the Blue Funnel Line sailed all over the world, but mostly to Far East, specially
China.

for this reason...... some people call the company the "China Boats" or "Blueys" .......... they had a blue funnel with black top..........and were very special looking.

many sailors have "special" names for ships and companies......it will take you time to know them all..............

also for you........ the ships of Blue Funnel all had names from your Greek Myths.......

Priam......Stentor.....Anchises.......Memnon and even your name.........Jason.

Blue Funnel was a very big company, and had many many ships and crews......but they were all named in Greek myth style........Ajax.......Calchas.....Tantalus and so on...............

their home port was Liverpool, and their Head Office was in a famous street there called Water Street.......you can find it on "Google Earth"........it is very close to the famous River Mersey.

i think this may help you.........

bye for now

It certainly does Sparkie, I did not see anything wrong with Duquesa's post either, he was merely answering Jasons query on what were Bluies.

A good description of BF by you by the way

Chris

Can I draw all your attentions to the site guidelines and the bit about hijacking threads.
This is a say hello and welcome thread not a discussion on the merits of certain shipping companies.
The new member must be thinking we're all nuts.
Not that far wrong then eh!
Thank you
Kris

Question Is this still a Welcome thread?

Billy,

A warm welcome to the site from the Isle of Anglesey.
Don't be put off by some of the earlier irrelevant comments - I guarantee you will thoroughly enjoy the SN experience!
You will certainly spark many happy memories when you have a chance to explore our threads and, who knows, you may even re-establish contact with old shipmates.
Good luck!

Blue Funnel

Hi Dave (Wilson), I have just returned home to read your postings. My initial feeling was that you were referring to something else but on reading further posts, I can see that something in what I said to Jason seems to have rattled your cage. What, I have no idea but, read my post again and you will see that I was simply answering the young lad's query. Nothing more, nothing less. Lets hope that with a currently, somewhat limited understanding of our language, he doesn't form the opinion we are all totally batty. If the chap asks any further questions that I feel I can help with, I will do so as I'm sure many others will as well. Have a good day.
