Cool HMS Worcester last journey

As an Old Worcester cadet I wondered if anyone had pics of the old girl being towed away?
I learned she sank en route but dont have confirmation of this. Anyone know for sure?
I am sure some of the older FT Everard boys would know.

thanks

Atha F

hello Shipmate,
nice to read your reply.
yes I know Worcester was scrapped in 1968, 2 years after I departed.
My sister once told me when I return to Blighty that the ship sank en route to Grays (surprising since its virtually across the river).
I was trying to make a scrap book of the ship and its history.
Were you involved with the Worester to have known this detail?

bonjour from Belgium,

hello Bert,
thanks for the reply. I agree its a nice site. I am nearly 60 and had wondered about such a site many years ago, and hey presto you boys have one! I see you are a bunch of decent mariners witha common love of teh sea and ships.

I love looking through the photos and reading the threads. I feel like a landlubber compared to some of you.
I have been on 'shore leave' since 1968, although have sailed many times having hoisted sail aloft, plus the many crossings between Holland/Belgium and the uk on ferries.
cheers,
Atha

Worcester 2 was the one that was scrapped at Grays in Essex.

"Our" ship, Worcester 3, ex Exmouth was handed over to the Merchant navy College at Greenhithe when Worcester closed in 1968. She was evcentually towed to Bruges for scrapping when the MN college no longer wanted her.

I attach pics of her being broken up for scrap in Bruges in 1978

I joined the Worcester in 1970, to complete the pre sea introduction course,(2 weeks), then phase 1 of the ONC course in 1971/2. (4 or 6 months, can't remember).
Have many happy memories of my time in her,and the charactors both cadets and instructors who were there.
It was closed after they built the new college, but thats probably gone as well. The last I heard it was a college for RO's, but with the introduction of GMDSS its probably become part of some university or other.

College was demolished about 8 years ago having been shut some while, memorial to "Worcester" on the foreshore amid the new yuppie residences (https://www.shipsnostalgia.com/galler...2/ppuser/10569) college website http://www.greenhithe.org.uk/php/gallery.php
