Two different SS Africa's ?

This thread is just one of many "Why didn't I ask him what he did in the war when he was still with us.
Sub Lt Tom Harvey arrived in Aden in August 1941 and was berthed on the SS Africa as a Port Manager/ Harbour Master.
I have his letters home , a very few photographs and sketches of the bridge of SS Africa and the inside of his cabin. Photo 1 TWH on bridge of SS Africa and Sketch of bridge looking aft. I have failed to find a contemporary photo of the ship, but I found on Petroc website an end of life photo of Africa in a floating dock in May 1959 Photo 2 She didn't last very long being scrapped in Bombay in October 1959.
My question is is this really the ship built in 1905 by William Walker in Maryport, Cumberland.

There is another SS Africa which I have a photo from a book online "Quest for Sheba" Photo 3 which is slightly smaller and has the funnel closer to the bridge, while the other ship has a kingpost immediately aft of the bridge with the funnel further aft. Anyone know about funnel marks ? Is the dark cross on the white band a mark of Cowagee Dinshaw listed in a Walker listing as an owner.

I think both these ships were laid up as hulks from 1945 to 1959 (one may be to 1966)

Has any one got a wartime photograph ? I am also looking for a photo of HMS Loch Melfort the resident armed trawler at Aden on which my father travelled to Perim Island

Andrew Harvey

I wonder if anyone has heard of a ship photograph collection of ships built in Cumberland (Cumbria) particularly those built by William Walker at Maryport. I suspect they built the smaller vessel Photo 3 of my last post, but not the larger one, both named SS Africa. Photos have been posted of both ships as hulks in Aden harbour in the 1950s 60s as attached.
