Red face Crossed the bar Cpt James Reid

Sorry to say that my dad, Jim Reid died recently at home in Buckie after a good ninety years. When we were putting together the Eulogy, someone suggested posting on this forum to see if anyone out there sailed with my dad, and cared to share any memories they had of him. He took my mum, my brother and me to NZ on the Devon and I still have many happy memories of that trip.
Would love to hear from anyone who remembers my dad.

Thanks

Sailed with your father for a half-trip on the Essex in 1965 when he was Chief Officer. I learnt a lot from him. He was always so precise and accurate. The 'ship rumour' had his background as being on North Sea trawlers originally.

I have a copy of the Crossed Flags magazine with your mother's article about your trip on the Devon. If you don't have it, send me a PM with your email address and I will send it to you.

Regards,

Alex. Chisholm.

I was 2nd Officer with your Father on the Devon for about a year and a bit and we ended up going to HK for the final voyage . It was a real pleasure to have worked with him , he made you feel important and useful in your job and most guys would do anything for him . I remember you lads being on board and how your Mother watched you like a hawk to see you didn't jump overboard or get carried off by an albatross . You may remember I played the pipes every day when it was calm . I often think I would like to get in touch with Jim again but didn't have an address or phone . Give my regards to your Mother , Betty and hope she's still living in the same house . I did call in when on holiday their about 45 years ago . Kind Regards . Andrew G
