Hello from an ex Grimsby lad

I served my time at TS Engineering GY when I left school as a Marine electrical engineer in the early 80's. I spent 5 years on Grimsby docks before moving to the Humbership repair yard at Immingham. After just under 2 years the yard shut for the final time and we were all laid off. I spent a couple of years moving around jobs before heading North in 91 when the jobs dried up. Now live 4 miles outside of Arbroath which still has a close connection with Grimsby with a number of roads named after it. I saw the devastation of the fishing industry first hand and it breaks my heart when I saw boats going for scrap or burnt on the beach. I am actively looking into the sinking of GY 82 Preston Northend in 1950 as my Grandfather was on her when she sank off Iceland. Hopefully I will be able to post my findings on here . Many thanks Mick

Welcome onboard Mick, enjoy the site. Sorry to hear about what happened to the GY 82.

Coming from Preston I have visited the Preston North End ground many times in the past.

Cheers Frank
