Tramp ship Norwich City

Recently I saw a program on TV,about Amelia Earhart(not sure of the spelling),the female aviator, who disappeared in the South Pacific,in the 1930's. One possibility of what happened to her,was being investigated,on an uninhabited island.Remains were found, and a old photograph, showing the rusted wheels of an aircraft,in the sea at low tide. There was an old British freighter aground on the reef.It was the Norwich City, that had run aground in the 1920's. The TV program mentioned a young girl in Wahington DC,who was listening in on a wireless set.She thought she heard a distress message, which mentioned New York City. She couldn't understand the message, with it being faint. But new theories suggest what she heard was Norwich City, refering to the wreck. Who owned this vessel?,was it Reardon Smith's,I can find no record of it.

I just Googled "wreck report Norwich City". Found information there, dates, photo etc.
