What was curious about the spelling, Mike? I'm curious to know.

Mediterranean as in Mediterranean Sea is with and Ean at the end. Papayanni ships all had an Ian at the end, so correct spelling for the company but wrong spelling for the sea.

I was 3rd mate on her in about 1974/75

She was not dissimilar to the "S" class but with a non-reversing version of their engines and slower turning generator engines. The CP propeller wasn't entirely successful in stopping a repeat of the Salerno drydock gate type incident however. I think it was about 1973, Dickie Jones was manoeuvring into Ashdod(?) with his usual panache but when he put the prop astern approaching the quay, the crankpin rings in the prop hub broke and he ended up with two blades going ahead and two astern. Net result - a lot of thrashing of water to no effect Fortunately the damage was confined to bumps and scrapes and some dirty underpants.
This was the time of the start of the terrorist attacks on Israeli aircraft and so all hold cargo had to be put into a decompression chamber for a couple of days before being allowed onto the aircraft. Tom Gill was the superintendent sent out to fix it and to save time it was decided that the two new crankpin rings should be taken as his hand baggage.
They weighed 20/30Kg each so I think it was this that must have lengthened his arms that improved his golf swing in later years
