Coaster ORIOLE

Anyone has info and pictures of ORIOLE, a coaster owned by the General Steamship Navigation Co. Ltd from 1939 until 1962 ?
I am writing an article about this vessel. Thanks

Hubert

Hello Hubert

I've just noticed your request for info on 'Oriole' and it may be that my 3 photos replicate Frank's. I've little additional info other than she was 489GRT and GSNC sold her to the Canadians in 1962, who renamed her 'l'Oriole'.

Cheers John V

Thanks to both of you. Another contact in Edimbourg was able to find an article in a newspaper dated 1939 showing a picture of the Oriole during the launching. For your information/curiosity, the Oriole sailed around the UK for more then 23 years and then was sold to a canadian owner who named her L'ORIOLE. After one year for this owner, another mariner from A village near my born place saw the vessel and purchased her. She became the CECILIENNE MARIE. After few year (1967) the owner had to reorginised his company and doing so, the vessel had to be renamed so they simply removed the word MARIE. But financial difficulties increased and the shipowner had to declared bankruptcy. His fleet including the Cecilienne was sold to a company in Newfoundland and the former ORIOLE became the MARINE TRADER. In 1983, she was sold again and became the Mayan Trader under panamen flag. In 1987 she became the Gonaives Trader under Honduras flag but with an owner from Haiti. A last change of name occured in 1990 when she was names Notre Dame de Lourdes. Sadly, the very last day of 1990 was her last day as she started taking on water and sank between the Bahamas and Cuba. 6 crew members lost their life that night.
Kind regards
