Hi Everyone,
I am researching the Union Steamship Co.which ran from NZ to Australia in the late 1800s, early 1900s.
My great grandfather, Robert Knox Doherty, was Asst.Manager for many years.During his time he was stationed at Launceston,Tasmania ,where my father was born in 1901, and then at Strahan, on the west coast of Tassie.During that time he was Manager.

I have visited Strahan in 2004 and actually was able to enter the building where they had their offices. There are glass pannelled doors with the Union Steamship insignia on them.
My gt grandfather's final home in Sydney ,was named "Arawa", after, I am guessing, one of the ships.
I would love to get in touch with anyone interested in this shipping line.

Hello Betty. I have in my book collection a short history of the U.S.S.C. It is of the early years but no mention of your Geat, Grandfather. If you go onto the internet and look for books on the Union Steam Ship Company of which there are a few to be had you may find more information.
