Perak 1942

The Perak was used to help an RAF squadron escape from Singapore the day before the garrison collapsed and surrendered to Japan. The Perak sailed to Sumatra where the RAF disembarked. I think it was sunk shortly after. My father who was in the RAF attached to 36 Squadron was on the Perak. I'm researching my fathers wartime experiences, any information would be gratefully recieved.

Perak

Thank you for the info on Perak and its later name changes. Do you have anything on its wartime role such as the evacuation of the RAF from Singapore?

Kind regards

"Perak" it appears reached Batavia where she seems to have been abandoned. A scratch crew was formed and later sailed her to Colombo.

There are brief references to her later wartime career:
eg " Found deserted at Tandjong Priok, Java. Worked by Scratch crew to Colombo. Trooping duties from hence also to Mediterannean area
1943 Arrived Haita (?Haifa)and converted into Hospital Carrier; Saw Action at Anzio and various Theatres
1944 Left Naples for Far East. Service in Burma and S.E.Asia
1945 Returned to owners; "
