That's sad news, split my sides laughing at his great jokes many a time. He never sunk to the depths of profanity as most of today's unwatchable 'comedians' do, he could keep an audience in hysterics with his non-stop jokes, for hours. RIP, Sir Ken!!

Very sad news indeed seen him once in a live show, he would not finish it ended up where the theatre management turned all the stage lightening off at 0015 to get him to stop.
He was a real comedian nothing rude in his act and he gave great value for your money, he loved his profession deeply plus his audiences. One of the greats will be so sadly missed.
RIP Ken

Sad to hear of our local legend,Sir Ken Dodds passing.
A great comedian and outstanding singer.
He was very popular and always managed a laugh without resorting to blue
humour.
I remember his own show 'An evening with Ken Dodd' he had the audience
mesmerised.
You will be greatly missed!!

RIP Ken

The master of the double entendre. He was banned from the BBC once for his line, "Men are hairy but on the whole, women are hairier."

There was also confusion immediately after the Princess Di accident.

"Did Doddy die?" " No. Dodi did."

One of the funniest guys to grace the plant. RIP Ken.

Remember seeing him in October 1960 in Liverpool(where else!) then 40-50 years later 3 times at the Embassy in Skegness. A true performer plus you really did get value for your money.

Remember seeing him at the Floral Pavilion, New Brighton about 10 years ago. The show over-ran by almost two hours. Almost midnight when we got out. Great performer.

Hear Hear Tom! Comedy Genius, Me, the wife and two friends went to see him at Hull City Hall in November! He started at 19.45hrs and finished at 00.30hrs with a 15 minute interval. His speech was a little slurred and you had to listen hard but his timing and jokes were fantastic with not a swear word in sight. Brilliant, he was 89 years old. He came on and said to a woman two seats from me, That's a nice dress love, is your chuckle muscle working, most of the girls come to my shows in their nighties! I would cancel your taxi love, but on the good side they do a lovely breakfast here! He also had a wicked little dig at the Taxman. He said that isn't it marvellous missus, a little fella sat in the counting house 450 years ago and decided that income tax would be a penny in the pound, my only mistake, I thought it still was! Yes a true comedy genius and a great normal fella, died in the house he was born in, RIP Doddy, never forget you and you will never be replaced!

Yet another recollection of a late night early morning.....two of us were invited as guests of an overseas corporation to see him at the Palladium...they had no idea of his history of never knowing when to stop........they rang and said that they would have cars calling for them and what time should they come....they were told anytime between 1130 and 0130 which they didn't believe....It was just after 0100 when he did stop and they were looking for their cars and I walked back to St.Johns Wood in the rain. Happy happy days RIP.

geoff

Just listening here in Oz to the Radio Merseyside Lunch-Time Phone-In . They have played a few clips of his Interviews on the station. I burst out laughing when he was jokingly bragging about his life - International Playboy etc. etc.............
and failed Accountant. At his court appearance in Liverpool for his alleged tax misdemeanours, he called Roy Hudd & Ken Sykes as his character witnesses.
Apparently (and not surprisingly) the Court quickly descended into farce - and of course "Not Guilty" verdict !

Another of his lines was that he became a comic because he failed accountant As for the court case fancy trying him in Liverpool with a scouse jury the taxman had bo chance ,I often think that if Lester Piggot had Doddies lawyer he would still be a sir.
