Ships Logs

I have asked this question in another thread but I don't think it was the right place. What I wanted to know is what happens to Ships Logs when a ship is scrapped.

They are returned to the owners. After that, who knows?

Depends on the timescale.

Are you intrested in a particular vessel or is this a general enquiry?

Roger

That,s about as clear as mud to me Roger but I would say that if they hav,nt been destroyed then log books will still be out there,if not here.

Thank you Roger. I am interested in the Logbook of the SS ARCHTOR which ran aground on Carphie Rock near Anstruther on 17 December 1900

Hello,
It would appear at first sight that the 1900 logbooks of ARCHTOR official number 106402 (ex WHETSTONE) have not survived, her crew agreements have but they are in Newfoundland and it will cost you $40 Canadian to obtain copies.

Her 1901 logbooks may have survived and given the late date of her grounding may be of more use to you.

You would have to enquire as to the cost of copying or visit Kew yourself and view for free.

Some other links that may help you.

Her registration papers may give some details

The wreck report may give you the answers you seek
