A very warm welcome to the site from Glorious Devon, Shelly.

You will find plenty of interest here in Kelly's and we have a former Director of the Company with us, so I am sure you will receive a lot of help with your seach.

Welcome Shelley, as the others have said, you have come to the right place. I'm sure the information will flow as they check in. I found my own seagoing legs on a Kelly boat well over 50 years ago.

Smile Welcome

Shelley,

A warm welcome to the site from the Isle of Anglesey!
I hope you thoroughly enjoy the SN experience and get many happy hours entertainment from your membership. As Peter has already mentioned, you have landed on your feet here since one of the Company's former directors is a SN member. I'm sure he will be in touch with you as soon as he sees this thread.

I am doing some research on a scrapyard A.C. Slooten in Netherlands. According to former employees a steamcoaster named Bally * is scrapped there, probably owned by John Kelly Ltd. Does anyone know more details about this ship, including the year in which the ship is scapped?

David "Jack" Drysdale

Hello all - I'm very new to this site and I'd be grateful for any help you could give me with regard to finding some history about my Grandfather David Drysdale?

Does anyone know which ships he sailed on within the Kelly's fleet?

Many thanks,
Conor

I was wondering if anybody knows, does the flag on these items come from the John Kelly Ltd line?

From crwflags.com:

Yes. Recent history:-

Based on Sampson (1957)
James Dignan, 12 October 2003

Based in Belfast. Originally started in 1861 to transport coal. Merged in 1993 with Lanes Group Ltd. Currently known as Kelly Fuels.
Phil Nelson, 12 October 2003

Post card collection confirms this design but shows a centered and slightly larger "K".

Kellies coal burning submarines, missed my ship in Garston (circa1950)but no problem she was only going to Belfast, so grabbed a ringbolt on a Kellie boat also going to Belfast, trouble was the Kellie boat got her orders changed half way across and I ended up in Dublin, getting back was another story, but on arrival back in Liverpool I found out my ship had only moved to Preston could have caught her with a fourpenny bus fare

I think that the Balmarino became the Ballybeg . The Anaghmore and the Donaghmore became the Ballydene and the Ballydonnel . I am Not sure which was which . Robertsons Girasol was formerly the Rosapenna . Similar to the Baronscourt , Glengarrif , Inishstahull , Parknasilla , and the Saintfield .
