New Member, Ship and model enthusiast

Helo everybody

I am a new member to this forum and wish to congratulate the webmaster and all the contributors/initiators of this excellent web site for their outstanding work.

I am a French model and real ships enthusiast.
My models are mostly in 1/50 scale :
St Canute with SVS steam engine+boiler (complete)
Brannaren, Smit Nederland (partly finished)
Flying Fish (bought to Ivor Warne, featured in a 1993 Model boats)
Rotterdam, 10 hatch coaster, Aziz, Le Sphinx, Talacre, Garnock (kits untouched)
Smit London, Loyal Class fleet tender,
VSC P 760 (Complete)
in 1/25, I have
W3, JEt star (Finished) Norderney (30% built)

I also have a small collection of about 100 ships drawings for modellers, most of whom are scanned to exact resolution. I would be happy to swap with other members as I am still looking some for some ships' plans

My interest in real ships is very focused on classic merchant and warships, as well as their preservation. For Instance, I am very interested in the development of the preservation of
PS Waverley, SS Manxman, SS Shieldhall, SS Freshspring, ST Stockvik, M/T Calshot, SS Rame Head, SS Jeremiah O Brian, ST Wal, SS Rotterdam, SS Norway Ex France and many others

A favourite ship era is that of the heydays of British and European merchant marine, of the 50's and 60's. I also feel a strong attraction to the long gone passenger ships of the 30's (Normandie, Queen Mary...)

For the warship side, I like big gunned ships very much, which makes Europe a place with limited choice in this respect. the US are a heaven for this with 7 or 8 preserved battleships.
I still grieve that UK scrapped their beautiful Vanguard and KGV class whereas France did not care about their Richelieu Class BB any more.

I suscribed to the merchant ship / warship photo yahoo group, but originally living inlands, I am a poor contributor

I am currently based in China near HK and will be happy to exchange views with anyone loving the ships and the sea.

Hello Everybody.

I am a new member to this site. It looks very interesting! I am looking for plans of Shaw Savill S.S. Southern Cross. I build static models of warships, passenger ships and cargo ships. Mostly to scales of 1/200, 1/100 scale. I have a web site that needs upgrading which I will do in the near future.
go to http://shipmodels.co.nz/

cheers, Graeme martin
