Always wanted to do that! Pity there was no sound on my download, there must have been some wonderful 'graunching' noises.

We did a sort of similar thing when swinging a ship at Stockton on Tees.

You let go the port anchor, keeping the chain slack and then drove the ship as hard as you could into the bank. The flood tide then took the ship round and when past athwart came astern and heaved up the anchor.
Worked a treat, the harder you drove her aground the more room you had astern when going round.

Gave quite a few Masters grey hairs !
