"Come into the garden, Maud" department. Who is paying for that, I wonder?

Amundsen christened the ship with a block of ice instead of a bottle of bubbles. Obviously bad ju ju for a ship heading into the Arctic ice.

PS Did he write "James and the Magic Peach"?

Looks to me like a private initiative. The Kon-Tiki-raft museum on Oslo's museum peninsula is private, and as I understand it, making a profit. But "Vollen i Asker" is a long way from other places where the busloads of Japanese tourists are unloaded, - it is long way away for all that do not live exactly there - so maybe they have some rich sponsors.

I was reading part of his life story last week, and I searched for "Fram", Nansens's ship used also by Amundsen. I then searched for "Maud", only to find that there was an attempt to raise it that day. Coincidence strikes again.

I would have posted it on here, but I have forgotten how to start a new thread. This is stupidity, and not a coincidence.

The planking of the hull is three feet thick wood. She was launched with ice, as she was built to break ice.

Amundsen was quite a man.

That guy once lived just up the road from Reardon Smith College. (Donít think it would be the Skull Attack gave him his inspiration though).

Interesting article Sister. Maud a bit of a drab name perhaps but seems ship was maybe quite a looker in its day. (Not much of it left to restore though?).
