Fort Blockhouse/ former HMS Dolphin

Does the RN or MoD make use of the berths at Fort Blockhouse? Have seen some pictures of barges, dumb lighters etc alongside but i remember a Type 23 (Iron Duke i think?) going alongside after the O boats had gone and Upholders transferred to Guzz for a photo shoot.

The only vessels to use the old submarine base in recent years has been a few redundant tugs laid up awaiting sale. Much of the base is now part of a marina. I have heard though that the Customs and Excise vessel may use the berth rather than secure to the adjacent marina pontoons.

saw a google earth photo showing what ;looked like a sandown class SRMH alongside. not sure if it was one of the old decomissioned ones or one trying out the berths? also do they still accommodate the ships companies of new build ships at fort blockhouse? think they did when st albans entered service.

Navy News has an article confirming that the customs cutters are to use the Dolphin base instead of the marina berth.

Oggies. Google Earth for Portsmouth is approx 6 years out of date as if you look into Fareham Creek, the Fearless and Intrepid are still laid up!!!
I will upload an image of Haslar as taken this past Saturday 05/01/13, to give you and idea of what it looks like currently.

Interesting pics, Haslar Marina has certainly encroached into Haslar Creek. Would be quite difficult for an O boat to move about now!
