I am coming up with three possibles.
NELSON J Born Belfast 19/01/1915

Hi James
The first one is my Dad who was born on 19th January 1915. Sadly he passed away in December 1984 and we have lost his Seaman's Card/Discharge Book and we were interested in what ships he served on, especially WW2. Also wondering if anyone remembered him. Regards Barbara

Hi Roger
I am so sorry, I meant to put your name instead of my
Dad's. I was just so happy to get a reply back that soon.

Regards
Barbara

Hello again,
The link below gives details of your fathers "Seaman's Pouch"
This relates to individual seamen filed together in a pouch. The documents inside, may include application forms , certificates, identity cards, (most with a photograph of the seaman) and cessation documents.
His "Pouch should be easy to obtain by clicking the button "REQUEST A COPY"

https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/C8270430

I don't know where you are in the world but if possible I would visit Kew yourself.

Another document concerning your dad will be his form CRS 10.
This is the "office copy" of his Discharge book and will give the names and/or Official Numbers of the vesels he sailed on together with dates and places of engagment and discharge.

These documents are stored alphabeticaly in blocks of 60 names so The National Archives would consider a search for an individual form as "Research" and charge you accordingly.
His form CRS 10 should be here.

https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ls/r/C10989533

but it may also be here.

Once you have the correct CRS 10, if you visited Kew, You could also look at the various ships Logbooks and Crew Agreements which sometimes contain interesting facts. Search Logbooks and C/A's via the vessels official number available from Lloyds Register of Shipping. (copies at TNA) or this site. https://www.crewlist.org.uk/#Data

It appears that your dad never claimed his WW2 medals, if you can find his form CRS10, we could then explain how you could obtain them.

regards
Roger

PS Be sure toquote your dads DIS A Number when communicating with TNA.

Hi Roger thank you for all this information and links.
I live in Australia but it looks like they would email the documents to me. Once again, thanks for all your help. Regards Barbara
