Oriental Bay

MSC Claudia (Ex Oriental Bay) is currently at anchor off Alang awaiting her final passage - she is the last "Bay Boat" in service, the last remnant of the once proud fleet that started as OCL, became P&OCL then P&ONedlloyd before being adsorbed into the mighty Maersk empire.

28 years old, a good age in these days

Oriental Bay

Hi Duncan,
do you know captain tony talbott, master of oriental bay , during the days of P&O containers? He was the master of Tor Bay before joining Oriental Bay.

Yes Duncan they did a canny few years but i do not know of any container ship since the first series of ships on the Far East Trio service to beat the Benalder built 197/3 at Kiel welded mainly by Turks were the fastest British cargo ships on trials doing 27.4 knots on British Steam Turbines. Had engines changed early eights to diesels built in Japan and sailed on till she was nearly 31 years old finished engines as the London. I think that could be a record in terms of third generation containerships.
