Post SS Verdi Lamport & Holt

The SS Verdi was sunk by U-53 in 1917 of the coast of Ireland. Does anyone know how I can find information relating to this, such as who was rescued and by whom, where were they brought or any other facts?

SS Verdi

Hi, My great grandfather was one of the sailors who died on this ship. I was fortunate enough to come across a first hand report of what happened to the Verdi it appeared in a magazine around 1918. I have it as a pdf file from memory I am happy to share this if you would like. I am new to this site so not sure if I can attach docs to postings or not, If you would like a copy email me at [email protected].

I also have various pieces of memorabilia from the ship.

Cheers,

Tony

SS Verdi sunk 1917 by Hans Rose

This is a magazine article that appeared in the 1919 - 1921 period, details the trip. My Great Grandfather Frederick Dittmer was killed- he broke his back falling from the ship. Tower Hill Merchant Marine memorial has the memorial. Frederick hailed from Liverpool and was of German descent, he was a steward on the ship and had been with Lamport and Holt since the early 1900's.
