I know that the Minerva (formerly the Alexander von Humboldt) now owned by Swan Hellenic, and was origionally planned to be a Soviet research vessel by the name of Okean. However, something happened and she was never accepted and became the Minerva of Swan Hellenic.

This is what I already know, but I am interested in her intended purpose. What was she supposed to look like as a research vessel? When I compare her to the Akademik Mstislav Keldysh (the only former Soviet research vessel I know of), she is so different, but then again I am comparing what is now a cruise ship to a research vessel.

What kind of a research vessel was she intended to be? Also, are there any pictures or renderings of her as a research vessel before she was converted to a cruise ship?
