Hi there.

Just found the site and, as you say, I'm an addict already!

I'm afraid my sea time is rather embarrasingly short, but also rather unusual somewhat in that I have sailed with Lamport and Holt both as a Deck Cadet and Junior Engineer (NO, not at the same time, before some wag asks )!

I sailed on the Debrett in 1959/60 as a cadet and the Raphael in 1968 as an engineer.

Unfortunately I have only one usable photograph taken on the Debrett, but many of the Raphael and her crew, I will eventually post them all as and when I scan them.

Although a Midlander, my spiritual home is Liverpool, where both my parents hailed from, which I still visit on a (very) regular basis. I usually finish up in the Caernovan Castle or Globe (just like 1959 really!) although I do miss the old Yate's Wine Bars.

Welcome to the site and all it has to offer, and as you have noticed, it is addictive. However, there is a whole world of information and humour available.

I also started my sea career as a Junior Eng. on the old Debrett. I well remember the scavenge fires, getting a drink of warm water from the hotwell filling pipe (!) , hanging cans of water under the ER. vent to cool (still warm water though!) sticking a beer box out of the porthole to get a draught of air, sweating it out on deck overhauling the steam winches and getting covered in black oil, crawling round the back of the engine getting readings for that bloody logbook, etc. etc.. And we LOVED it all!!
