HMS Dreadnought, of course, set the stage for a whole new naval arms race preparatory to WW I. In recognition of the 100th Anniversary of the start of that conflict I have depicted the revolutionary Battleship as she would have appeared escorted by a 'turn of the century' torpedo boat destroyer. On the rear of this postcard, posted December 27th 1912, part of the message says here is a photo of the good ship Flo as we coming into the navy yard Nov 28th, 12. I think it a dandy fine picture.
The USS was
12 inch guns on the ship that made the rest of the world's war-ships obsolete, according to historians. 18,110 tons, launched by Portsmouth Dockyard in 1906.
