She is named after the Normandy town of Mont St Michel, can carry up to 2,140 passengers and with over two kilometres of vehicle space, the ship also features a range of state-of-the-art navigation and safety management systems.
Mont St Michel involved in a near miss in December 2008 while leaving Portsmouth Harbour. The fishing vessel Danielle (BM478) emerged from the Camber Dock as the ferry was coming down the harbour. Danielle attempted to outrun the ferry and eventually cut accross her bows to avoid a collission
