Workers were trapped during the collapse of a structure during the operation in Puerto Patillos, located south of Iquique. According to the first reports, the situation occurred during a salt-loading operation of a bulk ship, when an infrastructure where the material was transported came out on May 16, leaving some workers isolated. In this situation, fire units of Iquique went to the accident site, to join the work of entities in this emergency. In this regard, the Captain of Puerto de Patache, Horacio Hurtado, told "we went immediately and we verified that the infrastructure had collapsed and a large part of it was on the ship that was loading. "Immediately we verified that there were not people neither wounded, nor trapped or in the water, much less deceased, that was the most important thing"
