John Redhead & Sons Ltd of South Shields completed the BASKERVILLE in 1954 to be principally engaged in the trans-Atlantic newsprint trade.

Great memories of these,Ian.BASKERVILLE.CASLON and CAXTON all coming up to Queens Dock.

BASKERVILLE become the Itlian cargo IROLLI in1966 under LAURO LINE!!!
many time are passed!!!!.very good remember.

from edcasey. my brother sailed on the baskerville's, sister ship caslon, from 1953-1958 as 2nd. steward.a few times from yorkhill but mostley deptford,and manchester. they sailed to dalhousie n.b. and corner brook, for newsprint. originally owned by "daily mail" group

The company was Canatlantic Ltd, a subsidary of Transatlantic Carriers Ltd. My Ocean Ships 1964 has the funnel colours a green with black top separated by white band. I assume the white band was discontinued

Hi, Ship list 1960. Baskerville / Caslon / Caxton and Isaac Carter listed for Runciman of London Ltd (Barberrys SS Co Ltd). Sold to Transatlantic Carriers Ltd.

I did 3 trips on the caxton in the sixties running from Depford or Salford to Three Rivers and Montreal with news print.The AB on watch with me served under my father in Shetland during the war! A small world.I would like a Pic off her can anyone please help????

I sailed in the first BASKERVILLE built in 1946 as a cadet,I joined her in south shields in july 1946,on her maiden voyage to Botwood N.F. any one know what happened to her

The 1946 "Baskerville" became Bristol City Line's "Birmingham City"in 1950. Sold to Hong Kong owners 1963, renamed "Semporna Bay" but still registered in Bristol. 1965 "Victoria Bay", 20 June 1969 ran aground sailing from Chittagong. Refloated 6 July, CTL, sold Hong Kong breakers and arrived Hong Kong 10 August 1969.

January 7, 1958. Launched by Blyth Shipbuilding & Drydocks Co.

Owners: Barberry Steamship Company.

Gross Tonnage: 8,950

Managed by Walter Runciman & Co.

June 22,1958. Delivered to owners.

1959. Sold to British International Paper Ltd, London.

1964. Sold to Transatlantic Carriers Ltd. ( An associate of walter Runciman & co Ltd.)

1968. Sold to Chryselena Cia Naviera, Piraeus, Greece. Renamed Elena M.

1978. Sold to Sircolo Shipping Inc, Managed by Mycali Maritime Corp SA. Renamed Vassilakis.

1981. Renamed Silver Shark.

1982. Sold to Silver Ocean Shipping Inc. renamed Mighty Sea.

1984. Sold to Zodiac Shipping Co, Malta, name unknown.

September 1985. Sold to Pakistani Shipbreakers.

1984. Renamed Jupiter Star.

September 16,1984. Arrived Gadani Beach for B/U.

Sailed on the Baskerville on my first trip to sea,joined her in Manchester just after the seamans strike in 1966.Went out to Brazil light ship arriving the day England won the world cup!! brought a full cargo of timber back to the UK,discharging in Grangemouth,Hull London and Plymouth.Then over to Antwerp to load general cargo for the east coast USA.Bulk cargo of soya meal back to Hamburg and Rotterdam where we where told she had been sold, flew home.
