Backsplice, my Dad was an engineer on the Salvina. My memory is cloudy on this but I think it would have been very early `60s.
Our family travelled to Oskarshamn for a ship launch and my father stayed on, it was a Salvesan ship and may have been the Salvina.
Any information would be appreciated.

riptide #3 and #4

Hi riptide from NZ. I saw Hell below zero years ago and it was so bad I'd love to see it again. The scene that sticks in my mind is someone stalking through a curiously empty engine room with a flensing knife in hand. Where'd you get hold of a copy? Regards Ronnie ex Salvesens.
Hi R58484956. I googled up whaling stations South Georgia. There's quite few derelict catchers still tied up there. RFG

Hi Rai #37

Hi RAI from NZ. You didn't mention MV Salmela on your list. I joined her in Capetown. I was second cook. Me and the chief cook were replacements but that's another story.I did about nine months but she had already been out six or seven when I joined. Captain Jim Rendall. He used to live up the road from me at Eastfield Edinburgh and I was at Edinburgh road Musselburgh . Paid off in Bremen in dry dock and we had a chartered flight home to Turnhouse. Regards Ronnie

I sailed on the MV Soutra and the MV Laksa in the 60's (Salvesons coasters)
good crews and nice ports up and down the coast of Norway.
