ERSKINE MAY

O! Woe is me! and Lackaday! Who spoke? What did the Speaker say?
Disorder we must now allay! We have run foul of Erskine May!
Is that Theresa’s brother? No. Nobody could suppose it so.
Of hazards, yet another, though. Quite what, as yet, we do not know.

Soundings, therefore, must be taken. Alarm bells rung. All hands awaken!
Stirred we are, but not yet shaken. Our principles are not forsaken.
The ship of state is still afloat. Her laws and customs known by rote.
Let nobody now grin nor gloat. May yet the law control the vote!

Oh dear me, we are getting into deeper and darker waters. Thanks for the Pome, Barrie, at least we can smile while we sink.

The devious workings of the Speaker's mind,
Have put the honourable members in an awful bind,
To the Government he has been less than kind,
For changes, Barnier is not inclined.
