Squadron Leader Geoffrey Wellum DFC Died 18th July 2018 aged 96.

He was the youngest pilot to serve in the Battle of Britain having joined the RAF age seventeen and a half in 1939.

He is attributed with being one of the pioneers of techniques to combat 'G' forces.

He later took part in operation Pedestal, flying off HMS Furious to Malta.

I would commend anyone interested to read his book 'First Light'.

Growing up with, and later reading about his exploits some years ago, I wondered why he was not knighted while screaming skull rock star junkies were!
