As of 28th December 2007, the last ships owned by George Gibson, Sigas Ettrick/1991 and Sigas Lanrick/1992 were sold on, although at present they won't be renamed.

Another UK shipping company enters the annals of history.

Regards to all, & Happy New Year.

Hi Mark, You must be ashore with your laptop. Catch up with you soon.
Yes a very sad day indeed. As Senior Master of GG I've been there for 29years 7 months. Really would have liked to finish my 30, but ho hay at least I'm still employed by the new owners. I'm off to the office to appropriate some memoribilia. They owe me that much.

Just to complete the story, at 1530 on 14th February 2008, Sigas Lanrick's Technical Management was passed to EMS (Denmark). She was the last 'Gibson' ship to go, leaving 4 ex-Kosan L-Class ships remaining on the EMS (UK) office books. These were passed to the Denmark Office last week; the Edinburgh Office (formerly George Gibson/gibson Gas Tankers) closes formally on 29/2/08. I've been invited to attend.

Sad days indeed.

Never sailed with them but recollect the foundering in the North Sea of the Traquair. The ship I was on Gannet (?) of GSNC in mid fifties rescued most of the crew before she sank and took them on to Hamburg, the Master was taken off by Belgian tug. Rough old night...

Noted b gas Lanrick was pulled in from Margate roads to Dover for 24 hrs now B Gas Ettrick pulled in from Steen bank anchorage to the buoys of Flashing .
The ship seem to spend time at anchor in the last few months.
Is this another sale coming up???

I was galley boy on the Abbotsford when she left dry dock in Grangemouth heading for Leith to load up stores and cargo and full crew. We ran aground on Inch Combe and I am told that the skipper was asked where we were and he said ,'the same place I put a ship 27 years ago'. There was very little food aboard and we had to wait for high tide to refloat and go back to Grangemouth by tug for a dry dock check up. On arrival I was given cash and sent up the road for fifteen fish n,chips. I stood in a queue and when my turn came I put the order in. Talk about aggro. JC son why didn't you tell us you were coming, why not come in and forewarn us? Everyone behind me were very very anti, thought I might even get thumped. But finally off down the road to the dock and the crew are hanging over the side yelling things like,' come on ya b/stard we're effin starvin". All part of lifes rich tapestry.

Was not with them long, was on two of the gas tankers as a Chief cook/steward. One sailed from Haysham to Belfast. If I look in my old discharge book I will find out when and what two ships.
Any help would be grateful.
Thank you

Just a wee update - the Traquair (built 1982) finally went up the beach at Alang in June 2017 - I had seen her in the Gulf in the March. It looks as though Teviot (built 1989) is about to follow - she's reported to be anchored off Alang today, awaiting orders. That only leaves Ettrick (1991) and Lanrick (1992) still going, as far as I know.
(I've used the Gibson names for the ships - all had/have been renamed)

I should have let the Traq sink when I had the chance. Would have saved lots of people lots of heartache in her final years. Sorry to read about the Teviot though. One of my career favourite ships.

Did the last docking on both vessels lot of work done but on both first discharge using the booster pump broke down shaft failure and on another one the left Bilbo and the engine Governor boke down full of ship yard muck. lost two anchors.
