Hi everyone,

Wondering if anyone has any news of the Team onboard this EWL vessel circa 1973. I did about 9 weeks relieving as 3rd Mate and after the "prim and proper" way of my previous Employers, serving on this vessel with the Guys from my own home town of Hull, was a mind blowing experience but one that opened my eyes to how the other half lived - a great time was had by all.

Hull - Esbjerg - Grimsby
Hull - Hamburg - somewhere on the east coast (Felistow maybe)

I do know that the ship sunk off the Dutch coast but nothing else.

Any Gems of Wisdom would be gratefully received.

Thanks to all/BSK

Hero/Valerie

With regards to the Hero thought this extract from the Lloyd's Register casualty database might be of interest;

"DRIFTED & FOUNDERED ON 13/11/77 AFTER TAKING WATER & LISTING IN LAT. 54 21 25N., LONG. 06 53 28E., IN THE NORTH SEA ON 12/11/77; ABANDONED BY CREW."

As for the Valerie, I remember seeing her in Wallhamn during the summer of 1978 when I was on board the "Kaprifol". I remember at the time wondering why she was registered in Jersey? Both ships (and also Wallhamn port) were operated by the same company, OT Rederierna which was owned by the Johansson brothers. They went down the pan in 1982 during the big Swedish shipping fallout.
The Valerie (sailing as the Pacific Mako) stranded on a reef off Fort Lauderdale in 1998 and was scrapped in Mexico soon afterwards.
