Beirut rescue ship back at base

HMS Bulwark took more than 1,300 people to Cyprus
A Royal Navy ship that helped hundreds of British people leave Beirut has returned to her Plymouth base.
HMS Bulwark returned to Devonport after more than seven months away. She had been due to return last month but was diverted to the Middle East.

The Albion-class assault ship took more than 1,300 men, women and children from Beirut to Cyprus. It also helped protect oil fields in Iraqi waters.

More than 1,000 people were at the base to welcome the ship home.

The 20,000-tonne commando assault and command and control ship is one of the Royal Navy's biggest vessels.

As well as protecting Iraqi oil fields, she was safeguarding waters off Somalia during her latest deployment.
