Our local newspaper runs a small shipping column each week. It recently mentioned the demise of the P. & O. houseflag, saying it is now only seen on the cruise ships now part of the Carnival group. It says the houseflag, dating back to September 1837, must surely be the oldest British houseflag seen on oceangoing vessels.
Can anyone in the site's 'sea of knowledge' confirm this?

Isle of Man Steam Packet Co this year celebrates its 176th anniversary.
It is the oldest continuously operating passenger shipping company in the world.

I think you will find a few British Companies going back longer than P & O, McAndrews being one and as Pat says Stevie Clarkes.
